Pac Learning of Interleaved Melodies (revised)

چکیده

A number of algebraic models of music that use the interleaving or shuue operator have been suggested in the literature. This paper shows how interleaving expressions are conducive to PAC identiication. PAC learning theory states that a \probably approximately correct" hypothesis that falls within a desired level of accuracy can be derived with a high probability from randomly selected training examples. The relevance of this result is that it is possible to construct very eecient melody recognition and synthesis modules for interleaving music languages .

Effect of rhythmic attention on the segregation of interleaved melodies.

As previously suggested, attention may increase segregation via enhancement and suppression sensory mechanisms. To test this hypothesis, we proposed an interleaved melody paradigm with two rhythm conditions applied to familiar target melodies and unfamiliar distractor melodies sharing pitch and timbre properties. When rhythms of both target and distractor were irregular, target melodies were id...

Postrecognition of interleaved melodies as an indirect measure of auditory stream formation.

Primitive processes involved in auditory stream formation are measured with indirect, objective method. A target melody interleaved with a distractor sequence is followed by a probe melody that was identical to the target or differed by 2 notes. Listeners decided whether the probe melody was present or not in the composite sequence. Interleaved melody recognition is not possible when distractor...

Melodic Fission in Trance Music: The Perception of Interleaved Vocal and Non-Vocal Melodies

While many studies have examined melodic fission of familiar and unfamiliar interleaved Western melodies, melodic fission in trance music, an electronic dance music genre, has not yet been studied. Melodic material is relatively constant throughout a trance song, while timbre, texture, and dynamics vary over time. In this study, participants listened to several clips of trance music with two or...

Auditory Imagery Modulates Frequency-specific Areas in the Human Auditory Cortex

Neural responses in early sensory areas are influenced by top-down processing. In the visual system, early visual areas have been shown to actively participate in top-down processing based on their topographical properties. Although it has been suggested that the auditory cortex is involved in top-down control, functional evidence of topographic modulation is still lacking. Here, we show that m...
